Energy Efficiency

Science matters
at the window

Without energy-efficient window treatments, as much as 50% of a home’s heating and cooling energy can be lost through its windows. All of our window fashions provide insulation, offering your home increased protection against heat loss during the winter, as well as minimizing the sun’s heat or “solar heat” during the summer.

Honeycomb shades use air pockets that expand when lowered to insulate against the transfer of energy, whether hot sun or cool air.

How insulation works

Science tells us that heat seeks cooler spaces. In the winter your warm home is losing heat to the cold outdoors. In the summer the heat permeates your cool home.

Windows are the most vulnerable surface since they allow visible light through. Window coverings create a denser barrier to minimize the transfer of energy through your windows.

Control solar heat

Solar heat travels through windows via the visible and invisible spectrums of light. The solar waves then heat the air in your home. Window coverings give you control of this process, so you can choose to let the heat through in the winter or block it in the summer.

Daylighting

Natural lighting can be healthy and mood-boosting. Some of our window coverings have the benefit of allowing natural light in and help minimize your use of electrical lighting.
